Rhealyz Africa Advocacy team engages pregnant women on Ending FGM and GBV

Female Genital Mutilation is a brutal act that must end in society. Lots of women have been affected by this act.

As part of our EndSummer Cutting campaign to advocate against all forms of violence against our women and girls, Rhealyz Africa carried out an advocacy and awareness outreach to a maternity center in Akure, Ondo State on Tuesday 31st August 2021 to sensitize the women about Female Genital Mutilation and the negative effect it has on the girl child.

The team was also accompanied by an End FGM advocate within the state Moninkanla Ogidan who was one of the resource persons. The outreach also had Rhealyz Africa End FGM Media Advocate Praise Akeju and Mr. Ireti Adesida the Team Leader of Rhealyz Africa as speakers during the event.

A lot of questions came up which allowed us to go practical on how to end the brutal practice.

They were also excited to hear about the new VAPP law that is going to deal with any FGM perpetrator.

The toll-free lines to report cases in Ondo State were also shared which gave the women a lot of relief.

Through our vox pop engagement, they also had the opportunity to appeal to the men to stand against FGM. The vox pop was used on the radio during the event. This was led by the Project manager Damilola Oluwadahun and Head of Welfare Kemi Ologbese.

Some of the women also expressed gratitude for the information. The outreach was supported by Global Media Campaign to End FGM and UNFPA.
